Life Lessons From a Struggling Swimmer

Swimming may not be a big deal to many of you out there, but for me, it happens to be something so big, that learning how to swim made its way to my bucket list a long while ago. I usually am that girl who sticks to the walls of  the pool, or walks around in safe water levels, and sometimes shamelessly sneaks into the kids section.  I finally decided to change this and tick learning swimming off my list, and took up swimming classes a while ago. Although I haven’t yet turned into a  mermaid, I have successfully got rid of my fear of drowning, I don’t go to kids pool anymore, and I no longer stand like a statue or walk around like I do in a garden, when I’m in the pool. If someone asks me today if I can swim, my answer wouldn’t be the sheepish No I told people earlier, instead I’d proudly announce that I’m a struggling swimmer. So while I continue my lessons and learn how to swim, here are a few life lessons my struggle with swimming taught me.

What Are Your Distractions Trying To Tell You?

freestocks-org-618080-unsplash

I have a terrible habit of unlocking my mobile screen often. When I’m supposed to be doing something important at home, like making an important call or writing, this habit goes beyond unlocking, to scrolling through social media, deleting unnecessary files, changing the wallpaper, to everything I think is important, before going ahead with the actual task. From binge-watching Netflix, spending too much time on social media, deciding to organize the entire house right before a big deadline, stuffing in junk food, we all have ways to distract ourselves, sometimes, without even realizing, what we think is important, is actually a distraction.

Let Go Of…

I wonder why we tend to hold on to things, good or bad, well let’s face it especially the bad. Is it because we’re conditioned to accept that happiness only comes to a few, and even if it does to others, it isn’t necessarily a permanent state, while pain and sorrows are easier and more natural state of the mind? Why is happiness made such a big deal of, as if it were a rare gem to find? Too often we forget that we are all humans made of the same skin and bones, and it’s our emotions and how we deal with them, that sets us apart. There is grace and love in letting go, no matter how hard it is to. Isn’t always easy, but if it’s worth it is an answer you’d get when you break free from the shackles that bind you with something you no longer relate to, or belong with.

So, as the year comes to an end, let go of…

Imagine, A World Where…

kira-auf-der-heide-475759-unsplash

Imagine a world where, people would live life, instead of just making a living. Where their lives wouldn’t be limited to work and bills, weekends and chores. A world where we’d all remember to pause and breathe once a while, where we’d need no breaks from the ordinary, because we’d find extra ordinary in ordinary too. Where we wouldn’t have to plan living well in advance, and live each day, one day at a time.

Imagine a world where people would always love themselves. Nobody would put themselves down. A world where we’d all be so madly in love with ourselves, that we’d never let anyone put us down. A world where self love would come so naturally, that we’d need no reminders that we are amazing just the way we are.

Here’s Some Tough Love For You

steinar-engeland-100576-unsplash.jpg

Reality is often stranger than fiction, which is probably why we resort to fiction of our own kind, and refuse to face realities of life. Despite how convenient it seems, such attitude is slow poison, that is bound to take you down with it. It is in times like these, that a kind word or two won’t suffice, but tough love will. So here’s some tough love to keep you going, before it’s too late.

1. You are not entitled to anything in life. You aren’t entitled to success, you aren’t entitled to progress, you aren’t entitled to riches. You got to work hard for it, and even then, it will take consistent effort to get you what you want. You don’t get anything in life because you deserve to, you get them because you work for it. 5 Things You Should Stop Telling Yourself

rocknwool-681445-unsplash

People are watching. The one concern that’s made many self conscious, to a point where they don’t get to live free. Unlike what you think, people aren’t actually watching as you walk by the pavement or slip and fall off one. People are all too obsessed with their own lives, to be noticing you, unless you actually do something to grab their attention. If you do make a fool of yourself and people do watch, they will forget it in a few minutes. People have too many things in their own life to handle, to be obsessed about yours.

Motivation Killers, and Ways to Fix Them

Lethargic, lazy  and unmotivated! Do these words ring a bell? They sure do to me! A serial procrastinator, I have two phases in general. One where I’m extremely motivated, ready to take on the world, helping myself through self help articles all over the internet, quickly reading up books , on my feet at work, and busy as a bee off work too, trying to check things off my list. The other is lying amidst cookie crumbles on the couch, binge watching tv shows, and making excuses to skip doing any kind of work, while I toggle between social media and an article listing 101 ways to kill time from the couch. While the former makes me feel alive and happy, the latter doesn’t do a great job at how I feel about myself or life, but is yet addictive.

It is only natural to lack behind our plans once a while. No mater what we believe, we aren’t superhumans after all. However, if this persists for a long period of time, creeping into the spaces of your life, effecting your work, personal life or your idea of success, it’s time to refllect on habits that make you lethargic, and keep you unmotivated.
