How Gratitude Changes You

thank-you-515514_960_720

I’ve spoken about gratitude before, and do so time and again. That’s because it’s the most underrated tool for change, and possible the most effective one. All the self help books I’ve read, and all speeches on positivity, often advocate gratitude. From my own practice of gratitude journaling, and learning to appreciate people, opportunities, situations and things with gratitude, I understand that there’s a reason this simple practice holds the potential to change your mind, and your life.

Get Over the Fear of Happiness

Do you ever find yourself scared, or slightly skeptic, in the middle of a perfectly happy phase? When everything seems to go on well, do you wonder secretly how long will the happiness last? When things are absolutely fine, do you find yourself worried that something bad will soon happen to compensate for all the good you’ve been receiving? If you’ve been smiling and nodding in affirmative to these questions, be assured that you’re not alone in the journey.

Who Put an Expiry Date on Dreams?

kseniya-petukhova-247103-unsplash.jpg

If you look beyond the smiles of faces you see, and delve deep into their stories, you’ll find that everyone has a dream they carry. While some go out and about to chase these dreams, life doesn’t always give the others that freedom. Different reasons, like responsibilities, major changes in life, lack of help and motivation, and sometimes the wrong notion that dreams can only remain just that, often make many of us the living graves of dreams that die an  untimely death. We tuck them into dusty corners of a heart that loses itself in the routine and struggle of life. Years later, we smile with a pinch in the chest, when conversations revolve around dreams and aspirations. Sometimes in the middle of a busy, mechanical day, we wonder how different would life have been, had we got a chance, or taken the chance to fulfill a dream.

Places I Didn’t Belong

eutah-mizushima-26887-unsplash.jpg

Sitting with that group of friends, laughing out loud. Drinks on the table, and music louder than our words. They laughed, and so did I, despite the fact, that the joke was on me. Again. Deep down, I wanted to just cuddle with my blanket, a book in hand and coffee by my side, yet here I was, surrounded by the cool ones, yet alone. The echo in the conversations, were a painful reminder of how far I had come, to a place I didn’t belong.

Here’s Some Tough Love For You

steinar-engeland-100576-unsplash.jpg

Reality is often stranger than fiction, which is probably why we resort to fiction of our own kind, and refuse to face realities of life. Despite how convenient it seems, such attitude is slow poison, that is bound to take you down with it. It is in times like these, that a kind word or two won’t suffice, but tough love will. So here’s some tough love to keep you going, before it’s too late.

1. You are not entitled to anything in life. You aren’t entitled to success, you aren’t entitled to progress, you aren’t entitled to riches. You got to work hard for it, and even then, it will take consistent effort to get you what you want. You don’t get anything in life because you deserve to, you get them because you work for it. What Are You Scared Of?

mubariz-mehdizadeh-371032-unsplash.jpg

Life is unpredictable, and so are our minds, and when the two combine, there is bound to be fear. What are you scared of?

Are you scared of being forgotten? Slowly fading in time, away from everything you know, and everything you are? Would it scare you any less, if I were to tell you, it doesn’t matter really if the world remembers you, all that matters is that you don’t forget your own true self in the journey of life.

Soulmates — Imperfect and Real

ahmmed-641877-unsplash.jpg

Soulmates. Unlike fairy tales, they don’t come riding on white horses or in princess’ gowns. They’ll enter your life when you least expect it. Sometimes, they’ll be right next to you all along, but it may take ages for you to recognize them. Sometimes you’ll have to kiss a lot of frogs before you reach them, sometimes you won’t.

Hidden In My Tomorrow

“I’ll start tomorrow, I’ll do it tomorrow” I’ve been saying for years. Tomorrow sure seems to be too busy to arrive, for all the things I want to do tomorrow, often stays in tomorrow forever. So I decided to rummage through my tomorrows, and like a treasure stored in a dusty corner, I found treasures of my own, that had been hiding in my tomorrows. Hidden in my tomorrows, I found…

1. That leap of faith I decided to take. Tomorrow never came, and I remained stuck in the same place.

2. That diet I was supposed to start. Tomorrow never came, and I kept finding solace in junk food.

The Beauty of Festivals

joanna-kosinska-414555-unsplash

“What is it about festivals, that tends to humble us down?” I wonder, as India celebrates the much loved festival of lights today, tonight, to be precise.

An air of happiness and simplicity — despite the display of fireworks and elaborate efforts put into adding lights and beauty in each house and street—surrounds me as I write this. People seem happier, as if they never had any sorrows, they seem excited about things, from firecrackers to savories, get togethers to celebrations, so much, that it almost seems like they’re excited for life in all its glory. It’s as if one day negates every other day that may not have been as pleasant. It’s beautiful to see people putting their ego, unhappiness, doubts and tragedies aside, for one happy day that is magical enough to seem like the beginning of similar days ahead.

Things You Aren’t…

yoann-boyer-276971-unsplash

The world can be a real cruel place to live in. Sinners judge other sinners here, for sinning differently. Self appointed judges are always waiting to pass judgements on lives they have absolutely no idea about. Trolls seem to have given themselves an elite social status. Bullies don’t seem to be turning a new leaf anytime soon. In a world filled with several do’s and don’ts here’s a kind reminder, that you aren’t…

You aren’t dumb if you don’t score well in class. The education system needs to learn better ways to judge your IQ.
