In a life filled with chaos and confusion, it’s easy for us to lose sight of our blessings. Often times we let the humdrum and challenges of life, overshadow the joy of living. In practical scenarios, it’s almost impossible to thank goodness that we atleast have a car, when it breaks down in the middle of the road, or be thankful that we have food to eat when the soup tastes like water. How do we then, mindfully remember, the good in life everyday? Keep a gratitude journal!

When I first came across the concept of writing down things to be grateful for, I realized how granted I had been taking my blessings until now. I realized I never got to thank the universe for all good things  that came my way, while I never hesitated from pointing out the bad ones. I then started listing down consciously, things that I’m grateful for, every single day! Every morning when I wake up, I list down atleast ten things I’m grateful for, in my gratutide journal. The more I write, the more I realize how blessed I am, even in the middle of testing times, and the more I write, the more I open my eyes to all the things I didn’t realize earlier, that have been going great for me.

Here’s what I started noticing, after developing the gratitude attitude. I am much more thankful in general, I have become a more positive person, and I don’t get as ticked off as I did before, at little annoying things, like the electricity going off, the lift being jam packed, someone cutting me off in traffic, or an annoying interruption. Not saying I’ve turned to a saint, but I sure am less of the evil I was yesterday. My mind is calmer, and more tuned to find the good in a situation, rather than the negativity of the situation itself. When I truly appreciate and enjoy what I have, I find more meaning in everything I have and do.

Just like the body, sometimes our mind needs some exercises and fine tuning too, and this practice of gratitude has fine tuned mine, to be more grateful, loving and accepting. I still have a long way to go, but with the little changes I see from something as simple as being aware of, and listing down my blessings, I am positive of the journey ahead.

I’d highly recommend the gratitude attitude to you as well! Every morning, or at the end of the day, list down things that you’re grateful for. It will hardly take 10 minutes of your time, and you’ll eventually find yourself becoming a more positive and happier person.
